Engineer Spotlight - Steve-Littrell

Meet… Steve Littrell! Steve is our new Business Development Specialist with Vision Control & Automation. He works out of our Appleton location. Welcome, Steve!

What is your role and what do you specialize in?

I am a Business Development Specialist tasked with sales and technical support for converting business to our company. My focus will be primarily ABB, WAGO, Entrelec, Red Lion as well as all other Vision Control and Automation product lines.

How did you become interested in Engineering?

I enjoy solving problems and helping customers solve their problems. We call it sales but in reality we are simply helping someone resolve a problem by applying our products.

What attracted you to this industry?

I enjoy the different types and kinds of customers. We are so lucky that we get to visit and see so many different applications from Marine applications to Food Processing to Special Machine building to Papermaking there is always something interesting to see and learn.

What traits do you have that help you succeed in your role?

I think you mostly need a genuine curiosity and ability to ask questions, to be inquisitive and have the ability to listen to what the customer is asking. Sometimes you have to read between the lines and help them articulate what they are asking.

When you’re working with clients, how do you help them identify and solve the problems that they’re facing?

When faced with opportunities it’s simply knowing how to apply the appropriate products to help resolve their issues. It may be sensing, controlling a motor, data logging, communication protocols or using switches to separate their data or all of the above.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned while working for the Standard Electric family of companies?

I’ve learned that the “team” is always willing to help answer any questions you might have and are very welcoming.

What kinds of things do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy motorcycle trips with my wife and friends, golfing, kayaking, sitting by the fire, good food and most anything outdoor related.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I played ice hockey up until 5 years ago and am looking forward to finding more opportunities to play.
