Meet… Amanda Turner! Amanda is a Warehouse Manager with Standard Electric. She works out of our Sheboygan, WI location. Get to know Amanda!
What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Why?
Camping is my favorite outdoor activity because it’s a great time outside with family and there are no video games or Wi-Fi to distract you. We also just bought a brand-new camper this last summer, and we are excited to use it as much as possible.
Playing board games or watching a good movie with my family would have to be my favorite indoor activity because it gives us something to enjoy while we are spending time together.
Ten years ago, are you where you thought you would be now? How alike or different is it compared to what you imagined?
10 years ago, I was a General Manager of a restaurant. Now I’m the manager of the Sheboygan warehouse. It’s a completely different path than I thought I would be on, but I am 100% grateful that I was able to make that career change and I’m extremely happy to be on the path that I am on now here at Standard Electric Supply.
Who inspires you? Why?
My husband. That man will move mountains for his family and friends. He is always working hard and setting goals to achieve, and he does it with no complaints or days off. He inspires me to wake up every day and make it count. He inspires me to be the best I can be, and he doesn’t let me take any shortcuts.
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
My grandma’s homemade Swedish meatballs. They were the absolute best thing she made.
What is your favorite part of working at Standard Electric? Why?
The culture that is offered and the company’s willingness to allow everyone to learn anything they want to. It’s empowering to know that you have a group of fantastic people that you work with that you know you can lean on for help if you need it.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I love decorating cakes and cupcakes.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Make sure my grandma and dad were debt free and able to live the remainder of their life however and wherever their heart wanted. Then of course my husband and two boys would have everything they wanted.
What is your personal philosophy? How has this guided you?
Treat everyone with kindness, even when they don’t deserve it. More tears than needed, but many lessons learned.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
Right now, it’s The Black List on Netflix.
What’s one thing you can’t live without? Why?
My family. They are the reason for everything, and they make everything worth it.
What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen/traveled to?
Florida. I love going to Florida, it’s so peaceful and beautiful. All the nature and ocean that you can explore and enjoy is just calming to the soul.
What led you to this career?
I was looking for something completely different than what I was doing. I was in a rut and burnt out and working 60-70 hours a week and needed a change. I was looking and stumbled upon the job opening here and took a chance. And I am forever grateful that I was given this opportunity to work for this company.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A kindergarten teacher.
